Dogs Rock Website Redesign Phase 1

Creative Direction, Visual Design, ux design, Copywriting

This is a business that was reopening in a new location. Dogs Rock had an outdated website that was a hodge podge of an old design with multiple updates and more than 3 menus. I started this project like any project, with a client brief. I use a questionnaire to ascertain the business’s needs and goals and their customers’ needs, goals, and behavior. The goal of the client brief is to learn about the business and its users and then to respond to challenges and evolve the current design or create a new one that is enjoyable to use.

After the client brief stage, I move on to organize the structure and flow of the site. The old site had a cluttered flow and I had to recreate and simplify the pages and navigation. I condensed over 20 pages into 6.

For this site, it was built using a CMS (Content Management System). I drew out my plan and design ideas and then I created a wireframe using InVision and then invited the client to view it and give feedback.

One of the features the client wanted was a blog page, so I featured blog posts at the bottom of the home page.

I identified two types of customers that would be viewing the site: new customers and returning customers. For the returning customers, they would likely be coming to the site to book a service again. I placed a “Book Now” CTA button on the top right so returning customers could easily book services without having the frustration of having to navigate several pages on a website they’ve seen countless times. This is a struggle I have personally encountered on websites I frequently visit.

For the second customer, prospective ones who have not booked a service, there are many “Get started” or “Contact Us” buttons placed at the end of key content areas to encourage prospective customers to get more information on to sign up for a new service.

Phase 2

This website went through a second round of design because the company changed their training services and needed two new landing pages to communicate the change in service to the customers.

I simplified two PDF handouts into bullet points and simple easy to read copy. I created layouts using InVision and asked the client for feedback. We went through a couple revisions then I built out the pages based on the wireframes.

The new training pages had a lot of information and features to communicate, so I created custom icons to help customers visually navigate these pages.
